For a long time, one of the things Mike and I have wanted to do is to go and watch a Sunshine Circuit golf competition. Mike won tickets which was great as it got us there. Truth be told, the value of these tickets is not very much. The value came in that he was handed them and we didn’t have to go and find them. The competition is the Lion of Africa Cape Town Open and it takes place every year at the Royal Cape Golf Club in the Ottery area…
What we didn’t know is that it is not difficult to get in on the first couple of days. The spectators were few and tickets available at the entrance.
There’s plenty of parking across the road. The day was hot and still. About 30C. I was well covered with long sleeves and lashings of sunblock, sunglasses a hat and even an umbrella. There are however, many trees on the course and we enjoyed the luxurious shade they offered.
We started off at the practice tee and then looked to see who was teeing off at the time we were there. Peter Karmis is a friend of mine’s son-in-law and he was teeing off at 12-25 so we followed him for 5 holes. It was such great fun. Mike loved watching. We met Peter’s wife and his dad and chatted a bit with them as well. Peter’s dad said, “two things you don’t want – dogs chasing cars – pros putting for pars!” Pars better than bogeys though!
There were not many spectators which allowed for wide open spaces and no difficulty in following the players…
It’s on today and throughout the weekend, so we will definitely being going back. And we’ll be keeping an eye out for Peter as well as for Andrew Georgio who carries the Joy Magazine flag and who was as hot as the weather yesterday, finishing on 10 under!
We left at 2pm because we had a very important recital to attend…our son had a gruelling one hour of non stop music to play.
So that’s first year Masters done! Well done David!
Then it was onto the Cattle Baron for 500g ribs…I had veggies as well (and 1 potato wedge!)
We sucked the marrow out of the day! 🙂
The Bible verse that comes to my mind as I type is Psalm 24:1
“The earth is the LORD’s, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it;”
He created everything in the world and all of us who live here. Isn’t that amazing! He has us in mind 24/7.
Keep the smile going!
God bless you!
In His Grip,
Helga xx 🙂
