This morning we left Swellendam at 5-10am. There were very few cars heading towards Cape Town. In the first hour, we overtook a Greyhound bus, a Bosman transport truck and a car. The amount of traffic coming from Cape Town was a different story. There was loads of it. The only congestion we encountered was driving through Muizenberg at 7-30am. Dozens of family-filled cars streamed towards the beach for a traditional Boxing Day family time in the sun.
We arrived home shortly before 8am. Mike mowed the lawn and I did a load of washing. The day has been spent settling back in, pampering the cat and doing shopping. I reflected warmly on our Christmas day. After our enormous lunch, we ALL had an afternoon nap and then enjoyed a few activities. One of them was some golf tips Mike gave David and Stacey. Stacey learned quickly and pitching in her back garden was pretty impressive….
David and Mike had a shoot-out….
Mike won, but only just.
We visited the neighbour’s dog, who took a liking to Julian…
She didn’t want to leave him!
And we went for a lovely walk in the surrounding area. Spectacular views…
In the evening, amidst much laughter, we played 30 seconds….and then we went for a night walk, admiring the first Christmas full moon since 1977. The next will be in 2034. I will be 70! As I enjoyed the spectacle, I prayed I’d be around to enjoy the next one, anticipating that, God willing both Mike & I will! 🙂 We will be 18 months away from our 50th wedding anniversary.
While we were out walking the mountain tracks, we passed an amazing sight…there in the middle of the dry and barren road, was this….
A flower, blossoming. It was so pretty and perfect, yet situated amidst harsh conditions….hard, dry ground – no water or nutrients, yet there it was blossoming. I know there are some who feel they are in the barren land. You won’t be there forever.
Isaiah 51:3
The LORD will surely comfort Zion and will look with compassion on all her ruins; He will make her deserts like Eden, her wastelands like the garden of the LORD. Joy and gladness will be found in her, thanksgiving and the sound of singing.
Don’t give up!
Keep the smile going!
God bless you!
In His Grip,
Helga xx 🙂
