Blogging on the Balcony

Monday

Today was the day…

I worked from the old house….which is a bit of a disaster zone at the moment. If someone broke in they would think other burglars had beaten them to it! Mike joined me and we did some clearing out and bought back some more kitchen things, like the potato masher which we needed the other day! We also bought some glassware in a box. When we got home, I loaded my rucksack on my back, a bag of belongings over my shoulder and the box of kitchen things in my hands. I went to try to open the rickety gate while holding the box, lost my balance, dropped the box and fell on my rear. Crash, boom, bang. No personal injury was suffered, but there was a lot of glass broken. On a positive note, if you are going to drop something, drop it before you take it up the 80 steps.

Now home, Mike is reading his computer book, while I’m blogging on the balcony.

My view…

Today quite a lot got done at the house. Courage worked on putting security against man and beast on the opening windows and made excellent progress. Our side balcony has most of the tiles on. It still needs its balustrade but I’m sure that’s coming soon. I see downstairs tiles are being laid on that balcony and Julian’s balcony got painted. Slowly things are drawing to an end. We are still missing some lengths of cornicing. I’m not sure if the supplier is out of stock, but hopefully, it won’t be too long before that comes.

While coming home from shopping today, we were driving behind a car with a kayak on the roof. He was racing towards Fish Hoek beach, so we made a mental note of the colour of the kayak. It was a Fenn with an orange nose. After we got home and had unpacked, we sat on the balcony and drank tea and sure enough, in the distance, gliding quickly through the water with an efficient paddler came the same kayak. It’s one of the fun unexpected pleasures of living here. There are so  many paddlers. By the time they are proficient enough to have paddled as far as we are away from Fish Hoek beach, they must be very fit indeed. Some paddle far from the shore while others hug as close as they can to the coast. I’m watching one now who is quite some distance from the shoreline. He has just turned around and is going with the wind and the waves back to where he started. Yesterday there were windsurfers who were amazing and the other day, which was particularly windy, kite surfers had a whole bunch of fun off Fish Hoek Beach.  The guy that did the U-turn is back at the beach already.

It’s been a beautiful sunny day. A good day.

Psalm 35:10

With every bone in my body I will praise Him: “Lord who can compare with You? Who else rescues the helpless from the strong? Whole else protects the helpless and poor from those who rob them?”

The best is yet to come.

Keep the smile going.

God bless you.

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂
