Beefing Up Security

With the trees having been chopped down behind us, in preparation of road development, we have since got hold of the plans to see what we are in for.  There will be a cycle track and pedestrian path 12m from our back wall, but at road level. It’s going to take a couple of years for this to happen, but in the meantime, we will plant more trees against the back wall and raise the height of the wall. This will beef up security.

So today I got a quote for raising the wall.

Another thing I did today was arrange had a guy come quote for security gates. With my wonderful tenant Morgan coming back to the cottage next week, I want a security gate on the main door. She loves to throw open the doors and enjoy the fresh air and sunshine, so it would be good to be able to do that with the added protection of a security gate.

Our bedroom also needs a security gate, so we have accepted a quote for both. I feel I am getting on top of things.

When we arrived in this area almost 28 years ago, our house looked very different to what it looks like today. There was no front fence. It had only just got a back wall. It was a tiny, three bedroom, one bathroom house of about 100 square metres including the single garage. We paid R67 000 and we thought we had paid too much!

We had no security.

As time passed by, we renovated and added on a large section. As the area grew, crime increased so we enclosed the front garden and secured the property. In 2001, we built the Granny cottage. We feel blessed. These additions came over time and the next steps for more security are about to be taken. They are wise moves. One day I’ll have to find the original photos from when we first moved in and put them up on this blog for posterity (for the generations that are not yet born!)

This was what Granny’s cottage looked like right after it was built…

Granny loved her little home.  This is what it looks like today…

Th big Norfolk pine made way for the neighbour’s  extension. The water tank has caught the rain. The grass looked healthier back in 2011, but I guess there was no drought! Anyway, that door is getting a security gate.

And so life continues. We live in a changing world and in order to enjoy it we need to enjoy today. This morning again, I was reminded of this: “Don’t wait for things to get easier, simpler, better. Life will always be complicated. Learn to be happy right now. Otherwise you will run out of time.”

It is so true.

Enjoy today.

This is the day we have been given and whenever I read that quote, I am quickly bought back to the present and am reminded to enjoy today. God is in control. We can trust Him.

Psalm 33:4

For the Word of the LORD is right and true; He is faithful in all He does.

I could rant a bit about what I am thankful for today.

#166 of my 1000 thanks is for the rain this morning – how badly we need it and how beautiful it was.

#167 of my 1000 thanks is for success in getting and accepting two quotes.

#168 of my 1000 thanks is for the pleasure of expectation – we are being treated to dinner tonight at a very nice restaurant.

#169 of my 1000 thanks is for the pleasure of a pedicure! 🙂

These are the days!

Keep the smile going.

God bless you!

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂
