Away in Swellendam

We are in Swellendam celebrating Stacey’s  birthday. I’m so happy to be here. She is a wonderful daughter! 🙂

Swellendam made the news lately with the collapse of a number of the canola silos.

You can see the silos from the road. Not all of them collapsed, but the ones that did certainly made a real mess. That’s the N2 on the right of the picture. No one was injured which was wonderful news.

Mike & I drove out here this morning and met up with Adrian and Stacey at a restaurant before heading to their home for present opening. They have a lovely home with a wonderful view. Swellendam is an amazing place. The 4th oldest town in South Africa, it was established in 1746. It was named after the first governor born in South Africa – Governor Swellengrebel. His wife was Helena Ten Damme and between the two of them, the name Swellendam was constructed.

Quiet, restful and picturesque it has beautiful surroundings with majestic mountains and rolling hills. AND a wonderful, well kept golf course. After our initial birthday celebration, Adrian and Stacey went back to work and Mike and I headed to the golf course.

Beautiful sceneryIt is warm with a slight breeze and cloud cover – perfect for golf…

So quiet in SwellendamThere were some silent spectators…

Silent spectatorsI left after 9 holes, but Mike carried on. I’ve got some work to do and then tonight we are going out for dinner and have a home movie lined up.

The serenity of this place sinks into ones soul. Definitely worth a  trip. I heard a saying the other day, “come apart before you come apart!”

Jesus suggested it…

John 6:31

Then, because so many people were coming and going that they did not even have a chance to eat, he said to them, “Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.”

It’s a busy time of the year…good to get away for a brief time.

Keep the smile going.

God bless you!

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂
