Another Two Steps Forward

One week ago today,  when Mike and I heard we were having to get neighbour’s permission for our build, we felt somewhat overwhelmed. We decided to give it one week and if we had not been successful, we would ask the Council to advertise and then they have to send letters to the neighbours. Well seven days have passed but we have made sufficient progress to continue our pursuit of neighbour permission ourselves. It’s been an excellent exercise in getting to meet everyone.

Six neighbours:

  1. Across the road left – on holiday – home on Sunday – today Mike spoke to the cleaner. I have knocked on their door numerous times and they have been out – now we know why.
  2. Across the road right – live in the UAE – say they will look at our documents.
  3. Neighbour left – German – lives in Germany – only contactable through a local estate agent. Emailed the estate agent who emailed the owner who emailed me back all the signed documents. That one time visit to this couple to say hello when they were here was God-sent. Yes. I see now the fingerprints of God on that ‘chance’ meeting.
  4. Neighbour right – the one having a hard time with this – Mike visited the site today and roughly analysed the trajectory of the sun and it looks like the neighbour’s top floor will still get some sun in winter. I have a feeling this neighbour will sign. He’s not intending to live in the house for another 9 years! He’s a nice guy and relationships are really important for us so we are treading carefully.
  5. Neighbour behind right has signed. Young guy and also very nice. Has got his plans to scrutiny fee stage.
  6. Neighbour behind left we are meeting with tomorrow.

Unless the Lord builds this house, we who are trying will labour in vain, I tell you!

Today has been a lovely day. I had work to do this morning and then the bunch of friends I usually hang out with on a Friday morning went to the Living Hope Mother’s Day High Tea...and what a high tea it was.  There was food galore and everything was beautifully presented…

The speaker was inspirational and entertaining – this is the next generation of leaders moving boldly forward to make a difference in South Africa. Lungi Nyathi. Here she is with her husband Mandla.

Home pretty quickly after it ended, as I had work appointments lined up back to back. I worked all afternoon and then had a leisurely dinner with Mike.

Another beautiful autumn day in Cape Town.

Psalm 119:1-3

Blessed are those whose way is blameless, who walk in the law of the Lord! Blessed are those who keep His testimonies, who seek Him with their whole heart, who also do no wrong, but walk in His ways!

The first 3 verses of the longest Psalm in the Bible – jam-packed with wisdom. Three down 173 to go! It’s worth a read and will take less than 15 minutes.

These are the days.

Keep the smile going.

God bless you.

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂

Gym:

Mike and I ran – we just did a 4.47km circuit running /walking. It was great!

Braces:

Day 178.
