9-44am
This morning dawned with the rain having passed and not too much wind. From our bedroom, in the distance we could see massive high tide waves thundering onto Noordhoek beach. I noticed on FB someone had posted photos of Muizenberg with a spring tide. Mike & I decided to cycle to Fish Hoek and have a look. We got there about an hour after high tide to find the sea receding and certainly not looking too threatening…
But we discovered that was just the sea being sucked out by strong undercurrents and it soon gained momentum and came right back in…
Up the steps and under the benches…
It was beautifully warm…and really fun to swim in. Had to be careful though. The backwash was fierce and the waves real dumpers….get stuck in it and it felt like a whirlpool on steroids…such fun!
We made sure we put our stuff on higher ground. It could have got drenched just leaving it on the bench…
But the real danger came when I went down a couple of steps to take some photos of the incoming tide. After a few minutes, I didn’t realise a wave was coming up behind me. This strong wave hit the steps and nearly washed me a way. I had my phone in my hand taking photos – and almost overbalanced. The water literally pushed me a long no matter how hard I tried to stay still. With water swirling all around, I clung to my phone and tried to keep from falling into the sea. A little bit of an adrenaline rush, but thankfully, I came out unscathed and with my cell phone still dry! And then the photo wasn’t even that dramatic!
I was very careful after that…and a little embarrassed…I had a number of older folk cluck clucking at me for not taking more care!
Deep in the Old Testament likes this verse – Amos 5;8
“He who made the Pleiades and Orion and changes deep darkness into morning, Who also darkens day into night, Who calls for the waters of the sea And pours them out on the surface of the earth, The LORD is His name.”
God displays His splendour through His creation. I also took a short video capturing some of the familiar sounds and sights of Fish Hoek Beach. It was about 7-30am…
Gotta love the beach.
Keep the smile going.
God bless you!
