Afshin Ziafat – Fabulous Friday Fare

3-20pm

A happy Friday today! Last night I went to bed a little later than usual because we went to Avril’s 50th birthday dinner. It was lovely to celebrate with everyone. I was thrilled to see Flame Lilies on all the tables. The Flame Lily is the national flower of Zimbabwe and is in full bloom at this time of the year. Many Fish Hoek Zimbabweans have taken to growing them. I would LOVE to get some in my garden. Hmm! I am going to have to speak to Avril about who is growing them…

Peter, I hope you get to read this! I am thinking of you and Diane and wondering if you had them in your lovely gardens.

Here is John with the Birthday Girl…

And here’s Avril giving her birthday speech…

It’s been a huge privilege for Mike & I to have been friends with this dynamo couple (I could have said ‘dynamic’ but they are more than that!)Β  for the last 2 decades! We appreciate them! We love you John and Avril! πŸ™‚

As for today, it was Bible study day and off to hear an I-N-C-R-E-D-I-B-L-E testimony of Afshin Ziafat a Iranian Muslim who came to know Christ. Here is the link…http://www2.northpointministries.org/player/player_old.jsp?occurrenceID=1406

And here are some of the ladies…

And here is one particular ‘lady of leisure!’…

It’s beginning to rain so I think I am going to nip out and buy a butternut and sweet potato for my favourite soup!

I think I told you I have been reading a bit of the biography of CS Lewis and how he became an atheist and then how he came to know Jesus Christ.Β  He writes β€œthough the son of a prosperous man, I had heard ever since I could remember, and believed, that adult life was to be an unremitting struggle in which the best I could hope for was to avoid the workhouse by extreme exertion.. I remember summing up what I took to be our destiny in coversation with my best friend, by the formula, ‘Term, holidays, term, holidays, till we leave school, and then work, work, work, till we die.” With those thoughts in mind, CS Lewis laboured through school with no hope for an easy future.

This is surely not how God wants us to live. He does not want us fraught with grinding poverty either physically or mentally. He wants us satisfied both in body and mind. He wants us to stride through life with our heads held high, smiling at the world and looking people in the eye. He doesn’t want us shuffling aimlessly, staring at the dirt as we go, ignoring others and being ignored ourselves. God’s life for us is rich with His fruit – by knowing Him, grounding ourselves in His Word, our tables will groan with love and joy, with peace – so missing in the world today, with patience (no anger or irritation), kindness, goodness, gentleness, faithfulness and self-control. Our families will be happy, our countenance, one of joy and the reason? Because we know Him. Not because we have plenty in our bank account but rather because our cup overflows with His fruit – that which money can’t buy! And our lives will be so much more rich for it.

John 10:10 Jesus says ” The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”

Have an abundant weekend!

In His Grip,

Helga xx πŸ™‚
