Wednesday
Dear Elsie
Today was the day we went on a bit of an adventure. We woke up in McGregor and went for a walk around the nature reserve admiring old houses and the lovely nature reserve…
After breakfast, we sent off towards Swellendam, boldly taking the ‘short-cut’ through the back roads. It was fun and adventurous seeing places we had never seen. It was 30km of dirt road and we only passed 2 cars.
We passed through places we’d never seen before.
We stopped in Swellendam and managed to get the car washed in super-quick time. We then went to your house, Elsie! You were at school but we had a visit with your Mom and Dad before continuing our journey through to George, where we are staying at Carmel. We have not been here for 25 years. Not much has changed…
After settling in, we decided to go into George, but only made it a few metres when we realised we had a flat tyre!
We were so grateful that we got to Carmel before it went completely flat, but I did think our dirt road trip may not have been such a grand idea after all. Mike took all of 15 minutes to change it. I was in admiration. All part of the adventure.
We went on our way with a new errand to see if we could get the broken one repaired. Tiger Wheel & Tyre declared it unrepairable, but said the leak was slow, so they pumped it up and said to use it as the spare. Hm! Not so sure about that. Tomorrow’s problem.
We came home for a lovely dinner and I am now working on the blog. Mike has come prepared for the load-shedding eventuality and has got a dongle with data. This means that we should have connectivity during load shedding, which is due at 8pm. He has also bought battery operated bedside lamps so we can read when the power is off. This is so helpful.
Last night’s bed was not so great, but this bed at Carmel feels very comfortable and I think we will sleep better than last night. I’ve done all the driving so far and was amazed at two things today. 1. That I wasn’t sleepy while driving and 2. I was so very tired when we arrived in George. When we drive through to PE on Saturday, we’ll share the driving for sure.
Psalm 39:5
You have made my days a mere handbreadth; the span of my years is as nothing before You. Everyone is but a breath, even those who seem secure.
The best is yet to come – we are only passing through.
Keep the smile going.
God bless you.
In His Grip,
Gran xx 🙂
