Today was just that – a varied day. I hit the gym at just after 8am, intent on putting together the components of the mini triathlon in the order in which they are supposed to be done. Swim 400m first, then 10km bike ride, then 2.5km run – a quarter of the full triathlon distances. I swam the required 16 lengths without stopping – it took about 12 minutes. Then got changed and onto the bike for the 10km. I upped the speed a bit and did that in less than 27 minutes. Then onto the treadmill for a 2.5km run and that was when it began to go pear-shaped. To start with I was already very tired. 2.5km could have been 10, it felt so exhausting, but I was determined, so on I jogged. I got to half a kilometre when my cell phone rang. It was Chubb. The alarm had gone off at the Echo road house and no one was answering the home phone. I asked them to phone the other cell phone number (David’s), but instead they kept phoning me back. Eventually, I abandoned the treadmill, grabbed all my stuff and dashed off to Fish Hoek. When I got there, everything was quiet. No neighbours peering at the house. When the alarm goes off, it sounds like half of the South African Police service is descending on the place! The alarm had stopped. I went in and the alarm was reset. David had left a window open and the wind had blown the curtain which had triggered the alarm. He was out, oblivious to the drama. I really need to phone Chubb and change the primary cell phone number to his.
As I drove back, I pondered whether I should return to the gym and finish the 2.5km run, but I was tired and decided the 48 minutes of exercise I had achieved thus far was enough for today!
On getting home, Mike went to hit golf balls and I did some hand washing in tank water. I rigged up a washing line on the balcony and hung it out. As I looked at it, I was taken back to the ship. I had used the same washing line and the last time it had clothes on it was on the ship balcony, fluttering in the wind with the sea beyond. Somewhat different today, but if you ever go on a ship, be sure to take a string of washing line and a few pegs.
I must have taken this picture half way through, as it now has two of Mike’s shirts on it as well.
I did some work and then David arrived. We watched the cricket and some tennis. Then at 1pm, we joined thousands of others across the province in praying prayed for rain.
This afternoon I had tea with Riana. This evening, Mike and I watched a couple of things on Netflix (Good Wife and World War II in colour). They are both very good.
Yip, a varied day! A nice one.
#547 of my 1000 thanks is for something I ate today and so enjoyed – berries and cream! Yum.
Matthew 6:34
Do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
Great advice!
These are the days!
Keep the smile going.
God bless you!
