8 Things I’ve Learned Since I Stopped Working

2-31pm

Over the last month as I have left the busy-ness of my work in media and become a ‘housewife’, life has slowed down. There are a number of things that I have discovered in the slow lane. Here they are:

1. It all begins in your mind. If you are going to think the day is going to be bad, you are setting yourself up for a more negative day. So as you wake up, train yourself to think ‘today is going to be a good day!’ Smile! It makes a difference.

2. You choose joy. My work is simply folding socks, shopping, laundry, cooking and basic chores – there is a threat that I could get caught up in the mundane-ness of it all! I have chosen to get excited about ridiculously small things…”Yayyyy,” I say out loud as I get to an intersection and there’s no traffic. One minute later, ‘Yayyy’ as I get the traffic lights green. And again a the next intersection and again at the final one. WIN!!! My elation knows no bounds! If you want to be happy, you’ve got to choose to be joyful.

3. Look for little things for which you can be grateful. The fact that you get to get up is already good. There are many people who wish they could get out of bed and they can’t. They need help. We take so much for granted and are able to find people far worse off than ourselves.

4. There’s more time to reflect and pray and study. I keep thinking this is a very privileged time. I can choose to read and walk and think and dream!

Breaking free5. Friends!! I’ve had friends around for tea and had more time for chats at coffee shops! 🙂

6. TV! I’ve discovered some TV programmes that I really enjoy watching – my favourite right now is Househunters International. I just love it. I get inspired by it! And of course, there is Wimbledon!

WimbledonI hope Anderson wins!

7. Life is not so stressed, so I can get to chat longer without feeling I need to be doing something else. This happened today when our friends who are staying in the cottage came over to show give me a lovely cloth map of their new land, New Zealand…here’s Madge and her beautiful daughter

Madge and Nicola 8. A lack of stress enables me to think more and write more. I’ve really enjoyed doing some writing and getting inspired by what I’ve seen and read.

Enjoying every day and making the most of every moment is just so important. Today my beloved brother Arnold, would have turned 54. He died far too soon 7 years ago. Live life intentionally.
Today will never come again Ecclesiastes 3:12

“I perceived that there is nothing better for them than to be joyful and to do good as long as they live..”

Be joyful and do good!

Fantastic!

God bless you!

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂

Gratitude…I am sure there are many who have admired the magnificent sunsets we have enjoyed over the last few weeks…
