Delight Yourself In The Lord – Psalm 37:4

Monday 20th August 2012

Psalm 37:4 says ” Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart.”

What a promise! So what does ‘delight’ mean exactly? The dictionary says it means ‘please greatly’ or ‘take great pleasure in’, ‘to rejoice in.’

If I were to say I will ‘delight myself in the Lord’, I imagine myself seeking Him, resting in His presence, being comforted by Him, rejoicing in Him, following after Him, seeking everything to do with Him. Putting Him first. My focus is on Him. Everything I do has Him in mind. Making God’s priorities my priorities. Searching out what pleases Him and doing it. He becomes my centre. He’s the magnet. I’m the metal. I’m drawn back to Him over and over again. I cannot help it. It is how I am wired. He pulls me to Himself. I delight in Him. In turn He fills my mind. He fills my heart. The deep desires I have are now in line with His desires for me. He fulfills them one by one, in His own time. His amazing, wonderful plan for me unfolds, bit by bit. As I see it coming to pass and as I see His hand of blessing on my life, I continue to seek Him – I continue to delight in Him & He continues to give me the desires of my heart, because my desires are His desires. He has put them there.

Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart.
