7-19am
Mike is 13 years & 8 months older than me. Surely this means he must have 13 years & 8 months less energy than me & be 13 years & 8 months more wiser than I. And how is it that this conservative guy decided to climb the highest mountain he could find while his risk-taking wife didn’t think it was such a good idea! There is something wrong with this picture!
It all began over a hearty breakfast where Mike got more than he bargained for…he asked if he could have 2 fried eggs instead of scrambled. I think he thought the waitress had gone off to ask, so without waiting for her to come back, he dished up scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, mushroom, tomatoes & 4 small pieces of toast with a mini croissant. Not long after he had got stuck in, the fried eggs arrived!
Not one to waste, he ate it all! Rocket fuel, I tell you. He then got onto google earth & (forget about the piddly tourist map), he found a path going right up the mountain.
We set off & went up a steep, rocky path that went on & on & on…
It was hard going…but the higher we went the more spectacular the view…
We walked through a lot if protea bushes that had been burnt in a mountain fire. We edged on upwards…
…until we got to a rocky outcrop & I could go no further!
But I did enjoy the splendour of God’s creation…
And so did Mike. ..
He showed me how much further we would have to go! It looked like what we had just done! Mike agreed that we had gone far enough. With knees creaking we walked back down.
I took a photo of the tourist map…we had walked off it… along the purple route Natuskloof Trail. ..
But it was a good day & we enjoyed it! And we are extremely grateful we are physically able to climb mountains. 🙂
Psalm 121 came to mind “I lift up my eyes to the hills; where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven & earth.”
He certainly helped us. That was yesterday. Sunday morning has dawned & I am enjoying an amazing sunrise. Today we return home. It’s been a fabulous time. Greyton is great! I’m glad we came.
God bless you richly.
