I Bought a Chair

Thursday

Dear Elsie

Today was the day I bought a wicker chair. For all our married lives we have loved to buy second-hand furniture. Our house is full of it. Today I got our next piece. Yesterday I saw a chair on FB and made myself first in line. I messaged the seller who got her dad (who owned their chair) to call me, which he did today. We were able to go immediately to view and buy it. These chairs are not cheap. I found 3 options online. Even with new ones, you need to shop around. This is Makro’s website.

This is Take-a-lot…

And this is Decofurnsa’s website…

This is what I got it for…

In excellent condition & it’s now on my  balcony.

Before we got married (1986), we bought almost everything second hand. I remember there was a rug we bought new at OK bazaars Adderley Street! Apart from that, the lounge suite, the dining room suite, our fridge, stove, microwave and washing machine & even our bed, base,  mattress and bedroom suite – they all came out of other people’s homes. Mike made wall units (which are now in his study). I made curtains and we covered the lounge suite in the same fabric (Biggy Best style). As a result there was no debt. The only debt we ever had was a bond on our house and when Mike bought his cars through his company.

We bought the cheapest house we could find – so we could afford it on one salary. Mike set about renovating it, adding to it, building higher and then a cottage in the back yard. And there we lived from 1st May 1989 to 16th October 2020. As we were able to afford new things, we bought them. As appliances died, we bought new ones and so we were able to replace them, but only for cash.

There’s nothing wrong with buying second hand furniture. We love a bargain and our chair today was surely one of them. We will enjoy it.

One of my favourite verses in the Bible. A verse for all seasons.

Psalm 34:1
I will extol the Lord at all times; His praise will always be on my lips.

It’s not about now – we are only passing through.

Keep the smile going.

God bless you.

In His Grip,

Gran xx 🙂
