Friday
Dear Elsie
I have a fun unexpected excursion tomorrow. Julian has to go to George, so he’s dropping me off in Swellendam and I’m going to see you my Elsie darling! He’ll pick me up on the way back on Sunday, so I get to spend the night.
Today was the day we dug holes in the ground – well not us exactly, but Courage did. When you build on a mountainside, nothing is easy. When you build HIGH on the mountainside, it’s much harder. The drainage needs to go from high up the hillside to the road. Today Mike set out the levels and Courage dug holes to mark each place the drainage pipe needs to come up. Mike measuring – there needs to be an up-pipe every 3m.
Courage digging…eventually, it has to come right down to the road.
The holes from our balcony
And one close up.
The scary thing is how deep they need to go. They need to go about 1.5m down and even with Courage digging the first part, he encountered rocks – a lot of them and big ones.
This is the lane, that hopefully, one day, not only will carry the utility services, but also the funicular, so it’s got to be done properly.
One day in the future, these pictures will pop up in my history and we will ooh and aah about them, exclaiming, “Remember when….” Like we do with these ones….this was 13th February 2020…the stairs on the right were built, but they were covered by rocks.
This is looking out through the Little Lookout door…
Another thing that happened on 13th February 2020…the concrete ribs were carried up. There were dozens of them, each one about 100kg.
One step at a time.
Today has been a good day in that we got to the beach this morning which was wonderful. I worked about 6 hours & now we’ve got a quiet evening.
Today I was reminded to watch what I say.
Psalm 34:12-13
Whoever of you loves life and desires to see many good days, keep your tongue from evil and your lips from telling lies.
It’s not about now – we are only passing through.
Keep the smile going.
God bless you.
In His Grip,
Gran xx 🙂
