Christmas Eve 2020

Thursday

Today was the day…

We enjoyed Christmas Eve 2020.

I love Christmas Eve. It is a day filled with anticipation for tomorrow’s celebration. It’s been a mixture of preparation and relaxation.

Mike and I went to the shops early and picked up some last minute groceries before coming home for breakfast with the family. Last night, Julian, Jess and Gerrie arrived so there will be 6 of us for Christmas. We spent time together this morning and then around 11am, Mike and I walked down to the beach for a swim. The tide was quite high and the shark nets were in place. I swam out to the blue barrel which seemed miles away. It was wonderfully refreshing – it took about 20 minutes – not that I swam fast – it was a bit of breast stroke and a bit of back stroke, just ambling along and enjoying the big ocean.

Along the cat walk, there is this guy called Leon who is building a couple of stone benches…

It’s fun to see his progress.

Yesterday when I walked past, the trek fishermen were hard at work pulling in their nets..

There has been a lot of activity at the beach with many holiday makers. Yesterday after we got home from our long walk, we were treated to a cormorant feeding frenzy. There were dozens of them sitting on the surface of the water and every so often one of them would flap his wings vigorously on the surface of the sea, as if building momentum and then dive under the water to catch a fish. It was quite a spectacle.

This morning, a Sans Park  helicopter flew right past – almost at the level of our house – I don’t think I’ve seen one so low. It seemed to be checking  the mountainside.

I don’t think I mentioned it yesterday, that Mike and I walked to the old house to pick up my car which is parked in the garage. That was our long walk.  On the way, I took a picture of the road behind the old house. It’s finished now. This was before….(taken 12 August 2018)

This was today…

As the day ended we enjoyed the view from the balcony – especially this yacht which hung around Fish Hoek beach for a while…

It was a beautiful evening.  It’s still and calm & Mike and I are about to watch another episode of The Crown.

Ephesians 5:2

Live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave Himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.

The best is yet to come.

Keep the smile going.

God bless you.

In His Grip,
