I think millions of people across the UK woke up this morning with a sense of uncertainty and foreboding. I think there was a lot of regret among the younger population who did not go and vote. I’m guessing a lot wanted to stay and left others to do the voting. The older population know the value of their vote and they made sure they did.
I see there is a new petition to the UK government calling on a 2nd EU referendum that over the last 24 hours has garnered a staggering 1.2 million signatures.
Government will have to do something about this – they say that if there are more than 100 000 signatures, they will debate it in parliament.
The other thing that has been reported on today is the other European Union leaders have not looked upon this Brexit result with a friendly eye. They are not likely to go easy on the UK. A couple of weeks ago the Financial Times noted that if Brexit happened, “an acrimonious and messy divorce” could follow.
Back home in South Africa, there were a number of stories being printed in the press and online about how terrible it will be for us and other third world countries.
Only time will tell.
For me, I prefer to ignore all the fear-mongering and negativity of the future, when in actual fact, we don’t really know what will happen.
This too shall pass.
I am reminded of the poem Bend in the Road by Helen Steiner Rice…
Sometimes we come to life’s crossroads
And we view what we think is the end.
But God has a much wider vision
And He knows that it’s only a bend-
The road will go on and get smoother
And after we’ve stopped for a rest,
The path that lies hidden beyond us
Is often the path that is best.
So rest and relax and grow stronger,
Let go and let God share your load
And have faith in a brighter tomorrow-
You’ve just come to a bend in the road.
Proverbs 16:9
In their hearts humans plan their course, but the LORD establishes their steps.
Whatever will happen, will happen. Hindsight will makes us learn lessons.
Trusting God is the only way ahead.
These are the days.
Keep the smile going.
God bless you!
In His Grip,
Helga xx 🙂
