Wednesday 1st February 2012 – “For God said, if they face war, they might change their minds…”

Exodus 13:17 says “When Pharaoh let the people go, God did not lead them on the road through the Philistine country, thought that was shorter. For God said, ‘If they face war, they might change their minds and return to Egypt.’ “

God knows us so well. So much comes out of this verse. “God lead them”. What comforting words these are. So far in the story of the great Exodus Moses and Aaron (remember they were aged 80 & 83) had been entirely obedient to God. Their obedience continues when God led them the long route and they followed. There was a shorter route, which probably seemed more practical. But God knows better. He knows the best route for you to take. He knows the best way for you to go. He knows you better than you know yourself. Perhaps you think God has been leading you in a strange and circuitous route. That’s because H knows what you are like. Another route and you may turn back. Be sensitive to God’s leading. When He opens a door, walk through it – don’t turn back!
