Humility – 1 Kings 21:29

Tuesday 19th June 2012 – 4-41am

1 Kings 21:29 says “Have you noticed how Ahab humbled himself before me? Because he has humbled himself, I will not bring this disaster in his day, but I will bring it on his house in the days of his son.”

Ahab had been arrogant. It is said earlier in this chapter that he “sold himself to do evil in the eyes of the Lord, urged on by Jezebel, his wife” (verse 25).

When he heard what was going to happen, he was quick to tear his clothes, put on sackcloth and fast. The passage also says he went around meekly.

There are consequences to pride and arrogance. Ahab’s son was to bear the brunt of Ahab’s pride. Disaster was to come on his house, instead of Ahab. Ahab was spared because he humbled himself.

Humility is so important. Don’t wait for disaster to come to you before you humble yourself. Start today. Every day focus on being completely humble and gentle. Be patient, bearing with one another in love (Ephesians 4:2).
