More van Niekerk Dirt…

1-42pm

Looking back, it seems a decade on air resulted in a decade of house neglect! In hindsight, I seemed to be on a hamster wheel, like a machine, just going and going and going and certainly not stopping to notice the house falling into a state of disrepair. We have our ‘fixer upper!’ With the vine sprouting all over the place, I think I will be making the Septembers to come my balcony balustrade maintenance month. I’ve finished the varnishing (although I see I missed a beam which I’ll have to get to). Not long after I finished up at CCFm, Mike asked me to see if the dirt would just come off the painted beams of the balcony roof. I never did it. Yesterday afternoon, I decided to have a nap and as I lay down on my bed, with a novel in my hand, the dirty beams caught my eye. “Now is as good a time as ever,” I thought, followed by, “If it is to be, it is up to me!” And so I hopped off my bed, filled a bucket with all manner of cleaning liquid and got to it. It was hugely satisfying. The dirt came away easily and I managed one entire side of the balcony. I’ll do the other side maybe today, maybe next week!

Before….

Before

After……(that black blotch I couldn’t get cleaner!)

AfterI had to empty the dirty water out a few times and replace it with clean. While I was up there scrubbing away (with gloves on), as I looked at the filthy rag, I wondered if that term is in the Bible. I found it in Isaiah 64:6

We are all infected and impure with sin. When we display our righteous deeds, they are nothing but filthy rags. Like autumn leaves, we wither and fall, and our sins sweep us away like the wind.

Pretty grim picture. That’s why we can’t ‘work’ our way to heaven. We can’t be so perfect to meet God’s standard of holiness.

Jesus came to sort out our sin. John 3:16

For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.

I love the simplicity of the Gospel.

So the balcony is slowly being sorted and the vine will be able to grow as much as it wants. On the 8th September, I took a photo of this bud….

Here it is 48 hours later…

48 hours laterWe certainly have shoots coming out all over the place…this is the first one I started taking photos of…

More buds

From very small beginnings, come a mass of leaves and grapes.

Back on the health front, I picked up an interesting tweet from Sally Ann Creed…

Something for you to investigate!

My brother comes for the weekend and I have a couple of things planned! Yay!

Keep the smile going.

God bless you!

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂

Gratitude Pic….while perched up on a stool and one leg on the balcony balustrade, I looked out at the view and admired it. As I did so, I recalled a prayer that Mike and I had prayed more than 25 years ago. We didn’t want much, but we would like a pink and green bathroom and a view of the mountains. I was in awe of God’s faithfulness….

View from the balcony on a stoolAs for the bathroom,…well not very pink, but this is shell pinkish….I love my bathroom…
