We Visited our Chunk of Granite

Friday

Today Mike and I took some time off and drove through to Athlone to visit the chunk of granite we bought back in November. How time flies..

It’s sitting against the wall with the front side away from us so we couldn’t inspect it but we did get to see it is there safe and sound. Arrow shows were our granite is situated. Nice view of Table Mountain on a beautiful Cape Town day.

We spoke to Abdul who explained the process.  As I look at this picture above, I’m a little happier about this risky business. It’s a huge chunk of granite – 3.2m long and 1.8m wide. We paid an excellent price for it…if it is not cracked. Abdul said one of the other people who had bought three pieces of granite – all three were cracked and none were able to be used for the purpose for which the guy had bought them. He said that when the time comes for us to get the fabrication done, he will inspect our granite and then be able to tell us if there are any cracks. They sometimes cannot be easily seen and follow the grain. If there are no cracks, the next risk is that it will look pretty terrible once it’s made into our island and kitchen tops. But looking at the photo, I think it will work, if it’s not cracked.

If it is cracked, we’ll get them to chop it up into manageable pieces and try to flog it off in non-cracked portions and try to recover some of the money. The company we went to in Athlone sells engineered stone and they have other more boring, but less risky options.  Us buying this is a bold move considering the boring family that we are!

I did some work after we got home and then mid afternoon we went down to the site. The lower ground floor (basement) has been had the screed put down.

The internal cladding is on a ship bound for Cape Town. It should arrive next month. The wall is going up at the back of the first floor.

After we left, we went out for an early dinner.

Stacey called this evening. It was good to chat to her.

The end of the week. The weekend lies ahead and it will be a restful one!

1 Peter 1:2

God the Father knew you and chose you long ago, and His Spirit has made you holy. As a result, you have obeyed Him and have been cleansed by the blood of Jesus Christ.

These are the days.

Keep the smile going.

God bless you.

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂
