Unexpected Visitors

We’ve had a few unexpected visitors at our door recently. The local Jehovah’s Witnesses have been out and about and twice they have rung our doorbell. On both occasions, I was out and Mike was home.

They’ve got their work cut out for them when they speak to Mike. He knows the Bible well and he knows their theology as well, so when it comes to a debate he’s up for it.

I’m not.

I once learned that there are two things that those who follow the teaching of the Jehovah’s Witnesses don’t have.

  1. A testimony
  2. Assurance of salvation.

When I’ve had the chance to speak to them, I have my speech planned. I usually take them by surprise by saying,

“It’s amazing that you have come on this very day! Because do you know that today 37 years, 8 months and 18 days ago, something happened to me that changed my life! I was just a young teenager and had been challenged about what would happen to me when I died. So I prayed and I asked Jesus to come into my heart and take over my life. I was all by myself. No one was there to help me or pray with me. It was 17th July 1979 and I was 14 years old – on that day, after that prayer, my life changed. From that day onwards I knew that one day when I die I will go to heaven and I  know that for 100% certainty.”

When I last had the opportunity to give that brief testimony, the response from unexpected visitors was very interesting. The man shrugged. He looked at his companion and they had no words. They said their goodbyes and they left.

Sometimes I am in awe that such a big change happened after I prayed that short prayer. A prayer of faith prayed by anyone can have massive consequences and I have experienced just that.

From that day on, I read the Bible and lapped up the teaching of Jesus. I understood that the only way to God was through His Son and I also learned through the teaching of the Bible that Jesus is God.  I didn’t need a preacher or an organisation to tell me what to believe. I had in the words of the Bible. I remember reading John 1

John 1:12-13

Yet to all who did receive Him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God- children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.

Suddenly, I was a child of God. It all made sense.

And it’s free to anyone, regardless of what you  have been taught.

Amazing!

Today has been a full day – hence the lateness of the blog.

#252 of my 1000 thanks is for my computer! It works hard!

These are the days!

Keep the smile going!

God bless you!

In His Grip,
