Truffles off to the Vet

Today I had to take Truffles to the vet for her annual shots.  A number of people have died in South Africa over the last few months from Rabies. I wanted to make sure she was up to date. She last had her rabies shot in 2015. In the Western Cape, they usually only give them rabies vaccines every three years so we are spot on time for her next injection. The (sweet Irish) vet (called Jean, who is 6 months pregnant with twins-boy and girl due early June) gave Truffles a good checking over and did some blood tests (a large Rand amount of blood tests).

Jean called a short while ago and said all was normal. Truffles is getting on – she’s about 11 now. Her liver, kidneys and thyroid are all fine. This is good news. She is a bit on the skinny side, so it was ‘peace of mind’ cash that I coughed up today. Next year, I won’t be in such a rush to have more than the routine shots. She’s happy then!

#595 of my 1000 thanks is for Truffles good health.

Today, Mike left to go and give a guy some training. He left after 7am and got home at 4pm. A long day. He hasn’t worked outside the home for that length of time for ages and he’s got to repeat it tomorrow and Thursday.

I have been trying to get my head around a murder that took place about a kilometre from where we live. A man of about 68 was riding his bike between two roads and was on a dirt track when he was mugged. The assailant stabbed him and took his bike. Unfortunately, the man did not survive. Here was a guy who was fit and healthy (he apparently rode the Argus cycle tour on Sunday and was training for another cycle race). His life ended brutally. It quickly made the news.

The amount of crime in our little valley has sky-rocketed.  It was only a month or so ago that another older man was walking his dog on the same path and was stabbed with a screw driver. He counted himself fortunate to be alive. His lung was punctured but he survived. Possibly the same thug is responsible for this attack. I used to walk on my own from my house to Clovelly really often, but no longer. I’m safe at the gym.

Really not easy to face these circumstances.

Appreciate those around you. Lap up every moment with loved ones.

I had an answered prayer this week. I have been looking at my tired lounge curtains, which has some wood stains where they had rubbed against the wet window sill in winter.  As I looked at them the other day, I remembered where I got them. Years ago, when adverts went into the local newspaper or onto the shopping centre wall, I saw someone advertise cream curtains and they were in Noordhoek. I called and went around and bought them. As I looked at the lounge curtains, I wondered where I could get some more second-hand ones. No sooner had that question crossed my mind, I was browsing on Facebook and saw the exact answer to my curtain query. Sharon from Fish Hoek advertised some on FB and no one had responded. I grabbed the opportunity and went around the same day to collect. That was yesterday! It was a real deal. Great quality lined curtains. R320 for both. 🙂

#596 of my 1000 thanks is for new lounge curtains!
