Truffles is Sick

Yesterday I noticed Truffles wasn’t eating. Last night I asked Mike if he had seen her eat anything and he hadn’t. Not only was she not eating, she was hardly drinking as well. As a result she was slow and lethargic. It was very worrying.

After I got into bed, she wouldn’t leave me alone. If I lay on my side, she slept on my hip. If I rolled onto my stomach, she climbed on my back. If I rolled over onto my back, she settled on my stomach. Eventually, I slept on my side and put her in front of me. She had to have physical contact with me. At one stage, she leaned forward and rubbed her nose on mine. This poor cat!

At about 2am, I woke up and took her cup of water from my bedside table and offered it to her. She drank. I was so happy about that. I held her in my arms and she was just limp. It was so distressing.

This morning, I got about a teaspoon of food down her. She disappeared outside. During the morning, I looked and looked for her but couldn’t find her in the garden. I finally went out onto my bedroom balcony and found her round the corner on top of the car port. She jumped onto the balcony and there she stayed for most of the rest of the day. I put her cup on the balcony and she had a few sips.

By then, I’d made an appointment for her to see the vet at 4-15pm. At 4pm, I loaded her up into her carrier and off we went. The vet was very concerned. She said she was very thin and promptly weighed her – 2.75kg. My poor Truffles had lost close to half a kilogram since March when she had all her vaccinations done. Today she was dehydrated but didn’t have a temperature. The vet wanted her to stay the night so she could be rehydrated. I asked if she couldn’t put a drip up and I’ll wait and then take her home. Truffles doesn’t do away from home very well. The vet’s plan was to give her a Vitamin B shot as well as an appetite booster pill. She took bloods and gave her a whole lot of fluid subcutaneously. Then we went home, with Truffles all puffy with the fluid. I bought some wet food for her and when she got home, she was ready to eat. She ended up over a couple of hours, eating all 85g of food.

I waited in trepidation for the vet to call. Shortly before 6pm she did, telling me that Truffles blood tests were actually okay. Her kidney and liver functions had a couple of markers that were slightly low but not badly so. Her dreaded disease test was negative. I was so relieved about that.

#916 of my 1000 thanks is that the dreaded disease test was negative. That was my biggest fear.

While she has eaten this evening, she is still lethargic. She’s not constantly moving, cleaning herself and fidgeting. Instead she is sitting quietly on my lap as I type.

We’ll have to see what she is like tomorrow. I have got the appetite booster pills to give her. I don’t think she has slept that much over the last 24 hours, so I’m sure she’s pretty tired.  The Lord knows. She’s in His hands.

Proverbs 21:31

The horse is made ready for the day of battle, but the victory belongs to the Lord.

Amen!

These are the days.

Keep the smile going.

God bless you.

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂

Gym:

30 minutes walking very fast on Fish Hoek Beach. The tide was out and I walked while Mike jogged at my pace. The Trek Fishermen were also there…
