The JoJo Tanks Came Tumbling Down the Hill

Thursday

Today was the day…

I went to Echo bright and early to see for myself the JoJo tanks that had come tumbling down the hill. David phoned close to 11pm saying he had heard a crash and a bang and now they were jammed up against the cottage. Last evening a black south-easter blew across Cape Town. For those outside the city, rainy weather is usually driven in by the north-west wind, but every now and again the south-easter is accompanied by a cut off low and brings in stormy and wet weather. It’s then known as a black south-easter. This winter we have had the most rain since 2014. Dams are 100% full.  We are grateful! At our building site, our front door faces the wrath of the north wind and when it was not closed properly this happened…

Last night, with the black south-easter, our JoJo water tanks which are on the other side of the house went from here…

Down this hill…

To here…

Oops! Fortunately, it looks like nothing was damaged. As soon as the downpipe from the gutter is attached to them and they start filling with water, they will stay put. In the meantime, as it’s still quite windy, they have been stored under the house.

That was the exciting event of the evening.

The solar panels are safe in Julian’s study. They will get installed once Mike has finished the kitchens and bathroom cabinets.

Today I also went to the doctor. I’m not sure if I have recorded here the most irritating issue I have with my left big toe! About two months ago, I put my gym shoes on and as I pushed my toe into the end of the shoe, I was stung by something. It was sharp and very sore. When I emptied the shoe, nothing appeared. I continued on my way not thinking too much about it, but later that evening observed my toe was very swollen. Thinking it would go down, I did nothing. Two months later it has gone through a cycle of being very painful and red and swollen to being very mildly pink. But I’ve got to the stage that I can’t exercise with my gym shoes without it being irritated so I made an appointment to see the doctor who diagnosed a chronic fungal paronychia. Of course when I saw the doc today, it was as mild as could be! He has given me some super duper weekly tablets to take along with a combo antibiotic/fungal cream to apply. I left with renewed hope that this blasted thing will disappear in a month. By November I should be happily running again. Such a small thing – such a big nuisance.

Mike’s busy-ness has been ramped up to the next level by the arrival of emails from the travel company he has written software for. He is meeting online with them now and has another meeting next week. Naturally, during the lock-down travel companies got hit big time, so they were very quiet, but now that things are opening up, they want his attention. It couldn’t have come at a busier time. Mike wears so many hats. Designer and architect of the house. Electrician. Solar specialist. Kitchen and bathroom designer and builder.  And now he sits in his corporate best at his computer liaising with a 230-vehicle travel company regarding their accounting needs.

Today’s blog reads like a letter I would be sending to family. Accept it as such! The family news! A letter to my current and future family. One day when I’m settled happily in heaven, someone may read these words and chuckle to themselves. I’m glad! Enjoy the big and small events that make up my life.

Today I hardly did any work. I did get my invoice in though!

Bible verses for October are all about praise.

Psalm 68:4

Sing praises to God and to His name! Sing loud praises to Him who rides the clouds. His name is the Lord – rejoice in His presence!

The best is yet to come.

Keep the smile going.

God bless you.

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂
