The Coffee Machine Died

This morning, Mike went downstairs to make coffee. He was gone a very long time and I didn’t hear the usual coffee machine sounds. It was quite disturbing, but eventually, I heard the frother frothing and he soon arrived with coffee and the news that the coffee machine grinder had ground its last beans. Oh dear. Now what?

What are we to do? For quite a while, I have looked online for a Breville service centre in Cape Town. There is not one. Eventually, at 9am, we called At Home store at the Blue Route and they said we could bring ours in and they would send it up to Johannesburg for repairs.

So into the car we got and off we went OTM* to the Blue Route. We took the old one in, only to have the shop assistant say that’s the VERY old one and they don’t repair them any longer. So after much discussion, contemplation, looking and pondering, we shelled out a small fortune and bought a new coffee machine…

But Mike is not one to accept the death of appliances. These coffee machines are not cheap. So this afternoon, he looked at the old one…he turned it on its back to look at its underparts…

…and declared that he may be able to fix it, so he started dismantling it.

I mustn’t make too much of a big thing about this, he said, as he may not be able to put it back together again.

I have every confidence in Mike. The grinder may be fried, but I think it will still brew a handsome cappuccino once Mike is done.

That took a sizable chunk of the day. Spring break continues so work has been quiet and I have enjoyed that. It is going to pick up to a manic level, so I must enjoy every moment of peace that I have.

We are waiting and hoping that the Echo building plans make progress through Council. We are longing for scrutiny fees. If we are very fortunate, we will get them this month. I got another SMS this morning to say our submission is receiving attention.  It is hard to believe that we will do this. Today Mike and I watched a Grand Design of a British couple who built a house on a massive hillside. Their access was better than ours, but they excavated just about the entire plot. We are doing everything we can to prevent excavation, so hopefully ours won’t be as long as theirs was in the building of it. Best to lower our expectations. Christmas 2020 perhaps? I am hoping for Easter 2020.  We are going into winter, so rainy days may also prevent progress once the build commences.  Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labour in vain. We trust the Lord.

Lamentations 3:22-23

The faithful love of the Lord never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is His faithfulness; His mercies begin afresh each morning!

That’s good enough for me.

These are the days.

Keep the smile going.

God bless you.

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂

Gym:

Not yet, but I may go this evening.  I have done 7825 steps today, so whatever happens, I’ll definitely ramp that up to over 10000.

Braces:

Day 148.
