Storm Damage and Breaking Ground

Last night’s storm was pretty significant. This morning when I left for gym I was surprised by some of the damage. There were a number of trees down and a lot of debris on the road. We ourselves had our landline knocked out. Fortunately, we are not dependent on it for the internet. We have reported it to Telkom and they will send a technician…one day.

Kirstenbosch posted a photo of a massive oak tree that was toppled by the storm….

This was the tree last spring (these are Kirstenbosch photos)

There is more rain forecast for the weekend, which is fabulous for our dams which went up 1% in 24 hours.

Pat McKune has measured the rainfall for Noordhoek and posted this to Facebook…

It’s quite insightful. Shocking that last May for the entire month we only had 7mm of rain. Hopefully, we will all continue are water saving efforts through the cold rainy months. I can tell you it is not easy. My after-gym bucket wash in (freezing cold) tank water is much harder to take now.

Today was another ground-breaking day for us. The builder came to the Echo Rd plot and got his workers to dig an exploratory hole to find out what kind of foundations we are going to need…

There are two holes to be dug, each about 1.5m deep. They should be done by tomorrow and then early next week, the engineer will come and have a look and we should get an idea about the required foundations. While today the ground started being dug, this project is just at conception stage. This is an elephant of a project (elephants give birth close to two years after conception!) I would love to move in at the end of next year but the biggest disappointments in life often are due to unmet expectations, so I’m not putting a deadline on it.  Mike hopes to have his plans complete by this weekend so we can at least show the engineer when he visits the site. We’ll take it from there! But this is something to be grateful for and I am humbled that we could possibly get to do this.

#678 of my 1000 thanks is we’re breaking ground!

This evening I have had a massive slack attack. I was cold and so snuggled up in bed a couple of hours ago, abandoning my pasta dish plans. Mike ended up buying Chinese and bringing it to me in bed. (He’s a keeper!).  I’m still in bed. Each day I tell myself to swap out the summer duvet for the Down one. Each day I’m in a rush to make the bed so don’t do it. Tomorrow, I tell you. Tomorrow it will be done!

My diary Bible verse for June are all on wisdom. We all need that.

Proverbs 4:6

Do not forsake wisdom and she will protect you; love her, and she will watch over you.

These are the days.

Keep the smile going.

God bless you.

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂
