Six Months in the New House

Friday

This was the day…

We celebrated 6 months in the new house. I woke up at 3:30am. Mike was fast asleep. I got up and in the darkness walked into the lounge and admired the light. “I can’t believe we live here”. If I’ve thought that once in the last 6 months, I’ve thought it 1000 times, still shaking my head in disbelief.  I did go back to sleep and woke up again around 6:15am. This evening we had sushi for dinner to celebrate. David joined us.

After dinner,  Mike & I walked down to the beach. It was buzzing down there. The restaurant was full and there were loads of people on on the beach enjoying a balmy autumn evening…not many in the sea. It was high tide..

The day was very social for me. My friends came for morning coffee. It was great to see them and  have a beautiful windless day for them to enjoy the view.  I managed to get in about 5 hours of work before and after the visit.

Mike and Courage spent the whole day working on the porch. Great progress was made but it’s not yet finished. Hopefully by this time next week it will all be done.  I meant to mention yesterday that Rob, who owns the plot high up on the mountainside, arrived.  A few days ago, we encountered him on the street and he asked if he could use our steps to run some piping from the road to his plot (140m) so he could pump water into a tank he has put on his land. I immediately said I wasn’t sure, we were quite protective over our steps and I’d have to ask my brother (that’s always a good delaying tactic). Julian arrives tomorrow so we were going to wait for his arrival. So yesterday, Rob arrives with the piping and asks Mike if he can use our stairway for a couple of hours to pump water into his tank. If he uses the other stairs up the road, they will need 450m of piping. So Mike said okay as long as the pipe was gone by the end of the day. The guy with the water tank and pump arrived and started pumping water. Well, that there pump was just too weak to pump water 140m up the hillside, so they gave up with the plan to return with a bigger pump. They didn’t come today but Rob’s 140m of piping is still on our land. :/ I sense the camel is already putting his nose in the tent. His legitimate access is actually on the other side of our house, so the next step is to suggest he start clearing that pathway. He said he wanted to buy a generator. We have one that has hardly been used (it was used once – on 15th June 2014, when I wrote this blog – Epic Sunday Fail). Maybe we can trade our generator for some of his labour in getting a fence up on the Simon’s Town side of our house. We’ll speak to Julian when he comes and see what he thinks.

Friday! It’s been a good day and tonight as I lay down my head, feeling better than yesterday by far, I will admire the lights and once more be in awe that this is where we live. Mike has worked hard today. He will sleep well tonight.

Isaiah 32:17

The work of righteousness will be peace, and the effect of righteousness, quietness and assurance forever.

The best is yet to come – we are only passing through.

Keep the smile going.

God bless you.

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂
