Recap: First 6 Months of 2019

Monday

Half the year is behind us, so I looked back over my blog and picked out a couple of highlights from each month.

January:

  • David’s YouTube channel had 1111 subscribers. Now it’s at 2561.
  • We discovered we had a bunch of departures for our building a house on the Fish Hoek Echo Rd mountainside.
  • We did a last-minute cruise from Cape Town to Durban to Portuguese Islands and back to Durban. It was fabulous.
  • Book I read: Double Tap by Steve Martin

February:

  • We paid the second dwelling costs for the building. That was a big step forward.
  • Elsie turned 9 months and started getting out of her enclosure (an inflated baby swimming pool – such a brilliant first playpen).
  • Mike celebrated his birthday.
  • Lots of loadshedding in February
  • I passed 100 days in braces – the orthodontist was really excited about my progress!
  • Book I read: The Diary of Iris Vaughan

March:

  • David celebrated his birthday.
  • They started doing the piles at Echo. This was a huge step.
  • Elsie turned 10 months and just look at this sweet photo…
  • Book I read: Persuasion by Jane Austin

April:

  • The cottage at Echo was burgled. They stole Julian’s laptop.
  • We got the builder’s contract, but hit a curve ball needing to get neighbour permission.
  • Had a very special Easter.
  • Book I read: The Little Karoo by Pauline Smith

May:

  • The building piles got done!
  • We had many discussions with the neighbours. We got 4 of the 6 signatures. The 5th will sign once we have put roll-up kerb to get easy off-road parking. The 6th was a hard pill to swallow. He wants R40000, so we are letting his requests go through Council. It means a lengthy delay, but we have got used to the idea.
  • We had a wonderful couple of days at Caledon Hot springs.
  • I had my medical tests – mammo and gynae appointment. All is well.
  • On 17th May, my orthodontist gave me a new (temporary) tooth. He filled the gap. I couldn’t believe the difference. When I smile, people see braces. When I smile, I see an amazing tooth I never had! 😀
  • Big highlight – Elsie turned ONE!
  • Book I read: Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll

June:

  • Mike did his last show for CCFm – an era ended – after 26 years of being involved in the station.
  • Stacey and Adrian celebrated their 10th wedding anniversary and Adrian turned 36.
  • Winter set in.
  • I passed 200 days in braces.
  • Book I read: The Good Earth by Pearl S. Buck
  • So I’m reading the history of Fish Hoek right now, which I’ll finish soon. Then I have Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier lined up.

And so July begins! What a blessing to be here.

Hebrews 13:5

God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”

These are the days.

Keep the smile going.

God bless you.

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂
