Quick Mountain Walk – Spectacular Views

If you are wanting an easy  mountain walk with a total time of 1 hour, I’ve got it for you. But first, just a reminder about walking on the mountains around Cape Town. Never walk alone.  Take a jacket and water. There have been some unpleasant incidents on some mountain walks, so keep cell phones/cameras out of sight. There is safety in numbers. Take the dog if you have one.

Along with Stacey and David, this is the walk I did yesterday.

Slangkop signSlangkop is the little kopje above Kommetjie. Coming from Cape Town, turn left into Rubbi Road. Drive right up until you get to the Catholic church which is on the right.

Kommetjie Catholic ChurchOpposite the church is a carpark, which is where we parked.  On leaving the carpark, walk up the road. You can’t miss the start of the walk which is up a very steep extension of Rubbi Rd. At the top, take a left onto a wide sandy path which takes you easily up the side of the mountain. The views are spectacular…

View from the path…and there are signs of spring everywhere….

Spring vygiesFollow the path. It soon becomes rocky and crosses a little stream…

River running byA short while later you find yourself walking along a nicely constructed path. Keep going and you will soon find yourself at the beacon…

Beautiful panoramic viewWithin an hour, we were back at the starting point…only going down the steep road is far easier than climbing up it…

David and Stacey walking down the hillI’ll absolutely be doing this one again, maybe even with Julian who is coming this weekend. 🙂

It was a lovely end to Heritage Day.

This morning, in my journey through the Bible, I got to one of the most comforting verses in the Old Testament. It  comes in the words of God to His children.

Isaiah 46:4 “Even to your old age and gray hairs I am He, I am He who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you.”

It’s always interesting to look at the words or phrases that are repeated. Those God wants to emphasize. In this verse, they are “I am He.” Jesus uses “I Am” in John 8:58. When you read this verse, God is reiterating who He is. The Creator of the universe, the Maker of all mankind, He is the One who will sustain you. He will carry you. He will rescue you! If you are feeling fragile today, He is your Creator, who has made you. He knows you intimately. He knows your needs and your weaknesses and He is there to sustain, carry and rescue you. He repeats “sustain you” too. He wants you to know that He won’t let you down. Trust Him today for all you need, not only today, but every day.

You are in His Grip.

God bless you!

Helga xx 🙂
