Pride Comes Before A Fall

12-35pm

It’s so interesting how life unfolds at times. Today, I met with a friend I haven’t seen for ages and we got talking. We spoke about our families and the events in our lives as Moms are want to do. One of the things we spoke about was scatter-brained family members and how all they need to do is to remember their cell phone, wallet and keys – how hard is that? Soon it was time to part and we made another plan for next week and parted company. I drove home happily.

On arriving at my driveway, it all fell apart. I suddenly realised that while I had my cell phone and my keys with me, I didn’t have my handbag! Ja, Helga, so much for that. You think you have got it all together and never forget anything. Well guess what? You just left your handbag hanging on the chair 5km away back at the coffee shop!

My heart pounded and my mouth went dry as I pondered the possibilities of all that will be lost when a passer by simply lifted it and walked on.  Fortunately, my cell phone was with me, but my wallet with a little cash and all my credit cards was in my bag. Grrrrr! I tried looking up the phone number, but couldn’t remember the actual name of the cafe! Eventually, I just got back in my car and trundled all the way back, thinking of my next move if I got there and found it still missing.

On arriving, I walked in and there was the bag, still hanging on the back of the chair! Whew!

It can so easily happen. I’m just so grateful that mine didn’t find legs and walk out. While it’s easy to tell others how to behave, the same code applies to me! I have the same weaknesses. I was so cross with myself!

Pride comes before a fall….it actually comes out the Bible…

Proverbs 16:18

Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall.

Life is a great leveller.

Pride comes before a fall

No harm done, but a good reminder to remain humble!  None of us are perfect. We all make mistakes. Once made, we need to own them and move on. Forgiveness is only a prayer away.

Humility never feels great, but it’s not a bad thing.

Keep the smile going!

God Bless you!

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂
