Nice to Have a Quiet Day

Sunday

It’s nice to have a quiet day and that’s what today has been. We were up in time for the 8am church service, shopped right after and then came home. We put veggies in the oven early so they were pretty much done when load shedding started. Once the electricity went out, we watched cricket – ODI against England.  Then I came upstairs to relax. And that’s what I am going to do today.

Meanwhile, the birds are very happy with green juice. When the weather is warm, they can get through one of these bottles in less than 2 days.  I filled this one up this morning…

There are really only two types of birds that favour it. The little Cape White-Eye and Amethyst sunbird… (photo by Brend0n White).

The long sharp beaked sun birds that have been coming to our bottle, have green in their plumage which I’ve just read means they are the male birds.  They flit about and chase away the others who wait in line for the more aggressive to leave. The birds seldom come unaccompanied. Usually, one is on the perch while a look-out sits on top of the bottle and drinks from there or waits for his/her turn. They are ever vigilant, sipping, looking, up and down, left and right, sipping, then diving away at the slightest movement.

Meanwhile, from my bed, I’ve also seen the next door cat (NDC) creep quietly inside and head for Mike’s open cupboard door. Mike and I are always at loggerheads about this kind of intrusion. I welcome her gladly and don’t say a word. Mike claps his hands and shoos poor kitty out. I am still mourning the loss of Truffles and particularly feel her loss on  Sundays when we buy a Woollies chicken. She was always around for that. I won’t feed NDC because then her owner will wonder why she doesn’t want to eat at home.  NDC pondering her next move…

We don’t plan on getting another cat until we have settled into the new house. The notion of moving into ‘a new house’ still sounds surreal. As we see the house going up and as we see each of the challenges being resolved and the budget not entirely busted, we begin to imagine that this is really going to happen. We will soon have a little dedication prayer at the site. It is our plan to put a Bible in the foundations of the third level. I’ve saved it for that level. I want it to signify that the Word of God is our foundation and central to our lives.

Maybe next year we will get a couple of kittens – brother and sister who can keep each other company and bring a feline friendliness to our home.

A nice early blog today.

Psalm 37:4

Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.

These are the days.

Keep the smile going.

God bless you.
