Mike Married a Messy!

1-06pm

Sue made a comment about the differences between she and her husband and it reminded me of the huge number of differences between Mike & I. I remember when I was moving out of the nurses’ home into the flat that we were to share after we married. Men weren’t allowed in the nurse’s rooms, so until one month before our wedding, Mike had never seen my room! Oh dear! I remember him standing at the door with this sort of shocked expression on his face! I thought he was over-reacting a bit;  of course the room was in a mess – I was busy packing to move out! But it was at that moment in time that I think Mike realised he was marrying a ‘messy.’ Mike loves order. The differences between us only began there. He is quiet. I’m a talker. Mike is a deep thinker. I eat the fish and leave the bones. I don’t need to ponder anything too deep and complicated. God will take care of the tricky stuff. Mike is quite happy to stay at home;I want to socialise. Mike is a night owl; I’m an early bird. Mike wants to think about what to buy, look at all the options, weigh up the differences, ponder the choices and finally, maybe buy it. I buy, almost, on impulse.  I didn’t even see my car before I bought it! Mike is happy to spend a weekend in Betty’s Bay. I want to travel the world. Mike is better these days, but he used to be a real type A personality. Red lights were there to slow him down. For me they were there to relax me and afford me the opportunity to enjoy the view! Mike is conservative. I am a risk-taker. Yet we are married, and happily!

Isn’t that amazing?!

I think one of the main words that come to mind when I think of Mike & I, it’s compromise. Mike lowered his standard and I raised mine. If I find his clothes on the floor, I will be happy to pick them up, without as much as a whisper of complaint. In fact I may break into joyful praise of what God has done. Mike’s clothes on the floor represent compromise. AND, me picking them up represents compromise too!

What God has done for Mike & I, He can do for you!

In Paris – March 2011. 🙂

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAIt’s been a typical Monday today. After the show, I did some work and then went to see Granny. Now I’m home and need to do some shopping, so I’m just getting the blog and tomorrow’s show prep done and then I’ll nip down to the Mall.

Ephesians 4:2 Be completely humble and gentle – be patient, bearing with one another in love.

God bless you loads!

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂
