Long Slow Trip Home From Swellendam

We woke up around 7am this morning and it was the start of a lovely day. I worked, spent time with Elsie, who gets an A+++ for adorability. She gets an A for feeding and a B for sleeping!

And I went around Swellendam golf course with Mike.  It was a warm and beautiful day. This is one of the main attractions seen from the golf course…

The course is in beautiful condition.

#974 of my 1000 thanks is for UMBRELLAS! The golf was made so much more pleasant by the fact that I used the golf umbrella as protection against the sun.

We got back to Stacey’s, showered and then had a nap. That would make the world of difference to the rest of the day. About half an hour after we woke up, we thanked and hugged the family good-bye and set off home. It was 4-05pm.  Our plan was simple. Drive to Somerset West, have dinner and be at the airport at 8am to collect Julian.  It didn’t quite work out that way. We were on the road when two things happened. Firstly, Julian called to say his flight was delayed and he would only be landing after 8pm. No problem. We could hang around Somerset Mall a little longer. The second thing that happened was I felt my lips were very dry and wanted some lipstick. Oh dear. With that thought came the immediate realisation that I left our bathroom bag back in Swellendam. Apart from bathroom stuff, there was all my teeth cleaning paraphernalia!  Superfloss, regular floss, toothbrush, miniature brush. Oh darn! I soon adjusted to the inconvenience and a decision was made to replace the whole lot as soon as we arrived in Somerset West.  No problem.

The traffic on the N2 was heavier and more truck-filled than usual. It’s 100km from Swellendam to Caledon – a trip that usually takes 45 -50 minutes. Not today. We drove away from Caledon an hour and a half after leaving Swellendam. It was very slow going with a lengthy stop-and-go and loads of trucks. Fortunately for us there was no rush.

Caledon behind us we headed for Somerset West and walked the length of Somerset Mall, shopping at Clicks and eating spaghetti bolognaise at Panarottis. At about 7-55pm, we set off for the airport.  Mike crawled along the N2. I had checked Julian’s messages and seen that he had turned his cell phone off at 6-23pm. He was going to be later than we thought. We parked at the top of the airport at the end of the stop & drop section and watched planes coming and going. Finally at 8-32pm, Julian messaged to say he had landed. One of the planes we had seen land was his. When there is no rush, there is no stress and our afternoon nap, the  leisurely drive and dinner made the late arrival no inconvenience at all.

We arrived home at about 9-30pm. Truffles was there to greet us. The house was fine. Grateful for a safe and happy trip.

Proverbs  16:7

When a man’s ways please the Lord, He makes even his enemies be at peace with him.

These are the days.

Keep the smile going.

God bless you.
