I Never Expected This!

Monday

Today was the day…

The birds arrived! For the last two months I’ve been trying to lure wild birds to my feeders, but I’ve had so little success. I’ve moved the feeders around a bit and had a few hits but not where I want them. Yesterday I changed the nectar bottle (which was nearly full) with fresh sugar water and put it close to the entrance to our house. Then this morning, after I woke up, I decided to put it on the hook right outside one of the lounge windows.

I’m missing the birds. We don’t have pets and I loved having the birds on the feeders at our old house. I really wanted them back. “Lord, You could send the birds back!” But still they didn’t come regularly. We had one or two but they came once or twice and then not again….

Until today.

But I never expected this!

It’s a long-tailed male Cape sugar bird and it frequents areas rich in fynbos. The mountain behind us is its habitat – only today, it found our nectar. This is his female counterpart…

On the bottom of the seed cage is a little white-eye. They have also been coming. Those I expected. I never imagined the long-tailed fellas to pitch. At one stage there were three of them on the perch fighting over the nectar, tails waving in the breeze! What a sight. I loved it! The new formula of 1 cup sugar to 3 cups water with a few drops of red food colouring hit the spot! We have reflective glass so while we can see out, they can’t see in but it does mean there is some reflection from the window when I take a photo.

Today, I whatsapped the dentist responsible for my loose implant crown and he said his wife has Covid so he is in quarantine until Friday. He can do the quick repair then. He is currently negative, so I hope he doesn’t get it. In the meantime, I’m eating carefully.

Mike and I have been to the beach once today and we are going down again soon to have another swim. This time, I’ll be able to follow the shark net line to the buoy and I’m remembering to take my swimming goggles.  We will enjoy the relatively calm weather while it lasts. The wind is expected to pick up towards the end of the week.

1 Corinthians 13:4

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.

Words to live by.

The best is yet to come.

Keep the smile going.

God bless you.

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂
