Hope In Darkness

Standard and Poors Rating agency downgraded South Africa’s credit rating today, so we are now just one level above  ‘junk status’. It’s a direct result of the President of South Africa, Jacob Zuma firing his reputable successful finance minister Pravin Gordhan and instead hiring Malusi Gigaba, who was Minister of Home Affairs. He has no economic experience, but rather holds a BA in Education and a Masters in Social Policy. His first speech was less than flattering.

The rand plummeted and now sits at R13-72 to the $US.

There may be some dark days ahead for South Africa.

2 Corinthians 4:8

We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair;

I am constantly aware that the world is full of problems, regardless of where you live. Even if you live in a so called safe land, things happen that are out of your control. Eventually, you will still die even if it’s the happiest, safest country on the planet. We can’t live forever.

We can  have hope in darkness wherever we live.

2 Corinthians 4:16

….so we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.

I think what is really important in South Africa is to keep hope alive. To remember that it’s not about now and it’s not about here. We are only passing through. This land is not our forever home. A greater, political-free, junk-free, pain-free, love-filled eternal life awaits us.

Corrie Ten Boom had the right idea…

#251 of my 1000 thanks – today I am grateful that my happiness is not determined by the country in which I live.

These are the days!

Keep the smile going.

God bless you.

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂
