Fish Hoek Water Woes

Saturday

Today was the day…

We woke up with low water pressure…again!  It has been happening frequently recently. The drainage system in our area seems to be old and after rain, burst water pipes abound. The Whatsapp group said there was a major issue on our road. I got that message when we were on our way to the beach. It wasn’t only our road affected. There was water pouring down the drain at the bottom of Echo Steps and onto Simon’s Town Rd.

I had a fabulous swim this morning. The sea was flat and warmer than yesterday. After 38 minutes in the pond, I began to get cold and called it a day. After we got home, we went for a walk to see what was going on down the road. The council had been out and had dug up the road looking for the leak. They had inadvertently dug through one of the water pipes. That was yesterday.  😫 By 10am this morning,  they hadn’t yet arrived, but did drive up some time later.

It was a good opportunity to chat to one of the owners of the neighbouring properties. Chris was his name. He told us about his funicular. He never has it serviced. It just keeps going, but it does use quite a bit of electricity. Good to know.

Anyway, soon the water department came out in force. There was a lot of truck traffic on the road for the duration of the day. The trucks can’t turn around, so they reverse to get out. At about 5pm, there was a lot of commotion on the street. I looked out to find out what was going on. Eventually, I went out the front door only to find a lady at the foot of our stairs, on road waving and shouting that our car was in the way. The truck couldn’t get past. Car got moved.

After dinner, Mike and I went to see progress. We didn’t get to see what had happened with the big ditch in the photo above because we got held up seeing this one!

They said they had tried not to dig up too much of the road!

Anyway, the long and the short of it, is we have water.

The burst water main down on Simon’s Town road is going to be a mission to fix. They said they have to dig up part of Echo Steps. The guy who lives right next to the steps had no water at 8am this morning and that was still the case this evening. More water department trucks and workers were at the top of Echo Steps. There was much scratching of chins and shaking of heads about what to do next. The manager was called to come. He had been at the above site. We will be watching with interest to see what happens to our favourite route to Fish Hoek beach.

For the rest of the day, I found myself enjoying the view from my rocking chair.

We watched a surf-ski overtake a yacht…

Signs of spring today. A beautiful still day and a majestic (almost) full moon tonight.

Psalm 46:10

Be still and know that I am God.

Amen!

The best is yet to come – we are only passing through.

Keep the smile going.

God bless you.

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂
