Drizzly December Day

Monday

Today was the day…

That I was officially on holiday. Our company closes between Christmas and New Year, so it’s 5 days off.

Mike and I went down to the beach and joined the locals and a bunch of holiday makers in trying out what was chilly water. It must have been about 16C. I swam a full 2km. We watched the net going out and how the shark-spotters handle it at full tide. The net is delivered on the back of a trailer. In low tide, the LDV tows it onto the beach and drops it on the beach in line with the shark-spotter hut, but in high tide this is not possible. The LDV tows it on the concrete walk way, to the Life-saver’s clubhouse. There, there is a ramp for the surf-skiers to launch. A team of ten then ease the loaded trailer down the ramp at an angle so they can control it. Once on the beach, at high tide it’s in the shallow water, they push it along until it is in line with their hut. At that point, they start unloading the long net and pulling it into the water. The inflatable arrives and drags it out towards where it is tethered close to the blue barrel. All of this takes close to an hour to get it out and properly secure so it can effectively keep sharks out. I watched most of the process from the water. I ended up out at the barrel and then swam back, at which time, the chill of the water had lowered my core body temperature and I felt freezing! At least the air temperature was  much warmer. I changed and Mike and I hurried home to a hot shower. I climbed back into bed with my breakfast!

It started off as a drizzly December day but by late afternoon, the clouds had parted. We decided to walk up Silvermine to the lookout….

The mist rolled in…

We got back down without any trouble. It took an hour and a half up and down.

It’s been a good day and a wonderful Christmas time. Tomorrow, the family leave and so do the cottage guests. Memory is coming to do the clean and we have more guests in on Wednesday. We get back into the rhythm.

1 Peter 4:10

Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace.

The best is yet to come – we are  only passing through.

Keep the smile going.

God bless you.

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂
