Compassion and Caution

I do believe there has to be a balance in life between compassion and caution. I’ve been chatting to someone recently and I think they have got the balance right. When a stranger comes to their door, they go and see what they want. They show compassion but they are also cautious. On the spectrum between compassion and caution, I’m wayyyyy over on the caution side.ย  I was more on the compassionate side prior to our spate of burglaries. Now I’m on the cautious, suspicious, non trusting side. Every stranger that comes begging I view as a potential thief who is scouting out our house, looking to see if anyone is home, how old we are, if we have dogs, from where we exit the house, what burglar bars we have, how many people are home, a whole host of observations. As a result, I don’t want to answer the door to strangers.

The person I was speaking about this has a different strategy. He answers the door andย  shows compassion, listens, explains options such as going to a shelter, never gives money but will give food. That’s a good balance between compassion and caution.

I’ve got a long way to go, but it certainly got me thinking.

Darn crooks do more damage than theft…they harm those who are truly in need.

I’m veering on the side of …

Today we have rested the entire day, although this evening Mike has worked on house plans. His original sketch was this…

While the design is still similar, he has got a lot more detail going, along with floor plans etc. They should go to the architect this week. Talk about a talented husband.

#680 of my 1000 thanks – Mike’s house plans.

I spoke to Stacey today and all is well with her family. Elsie is growing (she’s two weeks old tomorrow). Her hair is getting slightly lighter and her eyes are blue. She is beautiful. I look forward to seeing her again soon. ๐Ÿ™‚

It’s been a nice weekend. The rain has passed and we are in for a few days of dry weather. I’m going to catch up with the washing. An exciting new week lies ahead. I’ve peeked into my email inbox and there is a bit waiting for me.

Psalm 32:8

I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with My loving eye on you.

Great words!

These are the days.

Keep the smile going.

God bless you.
