Book and Movie

Monday

Today dawned cold and overcast. Mondays are always going to be busy work days unless I’ve worked on Sunday. As I didn’t yesterday, today was busy. But with rain and a cold wind blowing, I unplugged my laptop and came to bed with it. I worked from bed and had a companion for some of the time…

She eventually disappeared outside and I was left working.  Stiff from being in bed all morning, I got into gym kit and went off to gym.

I cycled and read at the same time. Never before have 40 minutes on a bike gone so quickly. I am at a particularly gripping part of Rebecca and the minutes flew by. Shock! I finally finished chapter 19! Gasp! That was a twist I didn’t see coming! Gripping story. Rebecca is a real page turner.  I have 8 chapters left. No wonder it was Daphne du Maurier’s most famous book.

It played another role, more infamous. During the second world war, the Germans planned to use one edition of the book for secret code. They would make sentences out of single words from the book, by page number, line and position in the line. eg 131, 15, 10 would be page 131, line 15 and word 10 which in my version is the word “troubled”.

That was the plan at any rate. What happened in the end was the Germans thought the code was compromised so it was never used.

After gym, I shopped, came home, showered, worked for a bit longer and then made dinner.  Mike had watched a wonderful film the other night and knew it was one I would enjoy, so we sat and watched it.

Mr North which came out in 1988 based on a book by Thornton Wilder called Theophilus North and published in 1973. It’s based in 1926 and is delightfully innocent.

For those who like a classic old style move look out for Mr. North.

This week is going to go by in a flash. Julian arrives tomorrow. Wednesday the electrician comes to sign off our solar system. Friday is our anniversary.  I’m stopping to smell the roses day by day.

Proverbs 16:7

When a man’s ways please the Lord, He makes even his enemies to be at peace with him.

These are the days.

Keep the smile going.

God bless you.

In His Grip,
