Being Above Reproach

I’ve been really saddened by the recent arrest of Toby Willis, husband to Brenda,  father of the Willis Clan (12 children) and son of Rev Scott and Janet Willis who lost 6 of their children tragically in a dreadful car accident in 1994.

This family knows the meaning of heartache, but it was never caused by one of their own – until now.

The full circumstances surrounding Toby’s arrest are sketchy. According to news reports, he was caught after trying to evade arrest. He hitchhiked out of state to avoid the police. They caught up with him and he is now being kept in jail until he is extradited back to his home state of Tennessee.

The charge: rape of a female relative aged between 9 & 12 a dozen years ago.

The fact that there is an investigation, the fact that he ran when he heard he may be arrested, makes me think there could be some truth to the accusation.

It’s the ugliest of secrets and one that immediately puts an end to the vibrant and busy career of the Willis Band.

The family must be crushed.

I have followed them on You Tube and always enjoyed their music.

Brenda Willis, Mom of the 12 and wife to Toby issued this statement:

“I was shocked and devastated by the revelation of events leading to Toby Willis’ arrest. As these are very trying times for the Willis family, I kindly ask all to respect our family’s privacy. As a mother of twelve, my first priority remains with my children and helping them through this traumatic event.

“We are cancelling all appearances for the foreseeable future to focus on the children and their wellbeing. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

“We have, and will continue, to fully cooperate with law enforcement officials and ask that you direct all inquires regarding Toby Willis’ case to the District Attorney’s office who have our complete support.”

My heart has been heavy for this family and I have been praying for them.

His wife and 12 children, aged 24 down to 5, thrown into confusion about what has happened and what the future will hold.

It’s devastating for them all, and for his parents.

If found to be guilty, Toby Willis could face 25 years in jail.

What a mess.

It just made me think how important it is for each of us to be above reproach. Above reproach in our own hearts – to our own selves – a heart displayed in front of God.

Philippians 2:15

…so that you will prove yourselves to be blameless and innocent, children of God above reproach in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation…

Then we won’t give way to sin that can so easily entangle us.

Pray for the Willis family today.

These are the days. We control so much of our lives – let’s be above reproach.

God bless you.

In His Grip,

Helga xx
