Beaches Are Open!

Tuesday

Today was the day…

…the beaches opened after more than a month of being close due to rising Covid-19 numbers. About a month ago, our stats reached over 20000 new cases a day. Yesterday they were down to under 3000 new cases. The President had his ‘family meeting’ as he likes to call it, last evening and announced that we could return to a regular Level 3 lock down so there is still a curfew and other restrictions but not as heavy as before. And one of the things he declared was the opening of the beaches and church services can recommence.

I woke early and as predicted the wind had dropped considerably. I sat on the balcony, drank coffee and did my Bible reading. At 7ish, I left Mike a note and went walking. The tide was  high…

…and the locals were out in their early morning force, excited to be back in the water. They had to dodge heaps of seaweed and battle the high tide but it was worth it. Their first swim of 2021…

I had a refreshing walk. The day was spectacular…

I got home just before 8am. Now, I thought I was being kind by leaving Mike asleep. You have to understand I am a morning person and he is not. For more than 34 years, I have boisterously bubbled into the morning, declaring the beauty of the day and how wonderful it all is. He has groaned and dragged himself into consciousness. Mike turns 70 at the end of the month. He deserves to sleep in, so for the last two days I have been going about my morning routine as quiet as a mouse. When I got in from my walk this morning and greeted him warmly, he was grumpy because I had gone off for exercise and left him behind! So, tomorrow, I will wake him up and off we will go together.

This evening, at around 6pm, we went down to the beach together for our first swim of 2021. It was jam packed with people, so after a 40 minute walk along the beach and through Fish Hoek, we settled on the cat walk and I did my 15 minute swim in water that was so unbelievably warm, I could have stayed in for longer – but it was getting late and so we returned home.  The wind will pick up a little tomorrow, but it will still be sunny.

Today, Julian left to go back to Johannesburg. Hopefully, next time he comes, more will have been done with this…

Tomorrow, Anne has another chemo and gets some scan results back. Praying for her tonight.

1 Corinthians 16:14

Let all that you do be done with love.

The best is yet to come. We are only passing through.

Keep the smile going.

God bless you.

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂
