Be Above Reproach

It is so embarrassing and humiliating when you do something silly and find yourself bringing both your organisation and yourself into disrepute. That’s what I dreamt I did last night. In my dream I did something foolish. It was one of those dreams that is very hazy. I just remember feeling so stupid. I had done something in jest and it worked out really badly. I was so embarrassed.

I’m so glad it was only a dream, but it was a good reminder to me, again, to be above reproach.

That’s not always easy.

Sometimes you do something innocent and it turns really bad. I once asked an applicant to send in a more appropriate photograph. I often do that. The Middle East is conservative and bare shoulders and alluring looks are not acceptable as a CV photo, so I ask them to change it. I told the applicant she didn’t want to look as if she was hitting on the principal (who was the person who would read her CV).

As soon as I got off the phone to her, she sat down and wrote a letter of complaint to my immediate supervisor. She ranted about how unprofessional I was and how could I say that etc.  The company had never had someone complain about me before,  so they were shocked.

I was mortified.

It taught me to choose my words more carefully.

Be above reproach.

Matthew 10:16

“I am sending you out like sheep among wolves. Therefore be as shrewd as snakes and as innocent as doves.”

Innocent as doves. Be careful what you say and what you write. Be careful what you write on emails. Be careful what you write on social media. Be careful what you write on text messages or whatsapps.

Sadly, at times, I’ve had to learn the hard way.

Be above reproach.

Be blameless.

There’s a lot of evil in the world today. Take care to avoid it and if you have to be amidst it, take extra care to stay under the radar and tap into the power of the Holy Spirit and the gifts that are so freely given by the Lord.

Not easy, but worth it.

I’m so glad it was only a dream.

#269 of my 1000 thanks is for the opportunity to meet with my friends this morning for a sweet time of prayer and tea! 🙂

These are the days!

Keep the smile going!

God bless you!

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂
