Baboons in Simon’s Town

Monday

Today was the day…

That dawned wet and windy – a typical Cape of Storms kind of day. I woke up in the middle of last night trying to calculate if the guesthouse had enough electricity. What if we ran out? So around 8am this morning, I jumped online and bought units and sent them to the guest. When she responded, I could relax.

With the rain and the cold, we did not go to the beach. I worked this morning and then this afternoon, Mike got an idea to go looking for shells. He wanted to find a new vase and fill it with shells. Shells remind him of his childhood, so around 2pm we set off. After not finding a vase at the charity shop in Fish Hoek, we headed for Simon’s Town, where we came to Hidden Treasures. I love this place…

We found a few absolute treasures, including a vase, shells and three of these sets. R20 per set.

Funniest thing…while we were there, a troop of baboons came by. They were on a family outing and looked like they were shopping in Simon’s Town…

Mom on a mission…

I just got the tail end of the troop. There were several that had gone on ahead. A short distance behind, came the baboon monitor keeping an eye on them without interfering with their activities. It was left up to the shop keepers to prevent them from entering the stores!

Onward, we stopped just beyond Simon’s Town golf club and enjoyed the view…

Driving on, we turned into Miller’s Point. What an amazing place – in the summer it must be buzzing, but with the weather so rainy, cold and misty, it was so quiet and picturesque.

This is the Miller’s Point slipway…

Rocks…we found some more shells among the rocks.

Stone ruin…was probably once upon a time, a kiosk.

Miller’s Point rock pool. Love the slide…

There were also these weird broad-leafed flat plants all over the grass…

Close up of one…

It was such a nice outing, despite the drizzly weather. We came home, had coffee in our new cups and Mike sorted the shells…

Very different Monday to what I am used to. I have also  made butternut soup so am going to go and blend it and that’s dinner!

The President has taken South Africa to a Level 4 lockdown with extra restrictions for the next two weeks. No more eating out. Restaurants can only serve take-aways. The curfew begins at 9pm and alcohol sales are banned. Schools will close this week instead of later in July. Domestic flights from Johannesburg are for business only. Fortunately Julian comes to Cape Town on business so he should arrive tomorrow as scheduled. We have to brace ourselves. The third wave of Covid-19 is in full swing.

Psalm 73:24

You guide me with Your counsel, leading me to a glorious destination.

Yes! The best is yet to come – we are only passing through. That glorious destination lies ahead.

Keep the smile going.

God bless you.

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂
