A Super, Super-Food We Should All Be Eating!

3-09pm

There is a food we should all be eating, all except those who are allergic and as I researched more about this super-food, the more impressive it became.

In recent years we’ve been told to restrict them to once or twice a week.  Our grandparents probably ate more of them than our parents who were badgered into believing that they were bad for your heart! With LCHF, they are a staple!  I’m talking about EGGS!eggs

The humble egg has to rate as one of the most nutrient rich yet least expensive foods to eat.

Here are the advantages:

One large egg has 0.38g of carbs. It has 4.97g of fat & 6.29g protein, so it is the ideal superfood to kick start the day… guaranteed to give you energy for several hours to come. After two eggs in the morning, you are far less likely to be looking for snacks by tea time.

Eggs are full of great nutrients. One of them is choline, great for pregnancy (foetal brain development)  and also for adult brain energy. It helps the brain function and stimulates memory! Just think how that will help with exams!

Eggs pack a potent protein punch, pulling out all the stops for essential amino acids, which among other things, help to repair tissue. There are 9 essential amino acids which your body needs but cannot make. Therefore you need to get them from your diet! An egg is your one stop amino acid shop! Eggs contain all of them! This contributes to muscle strength and helps prevent muscle loss.

Eggs are also high in folate, vitamin B and anti-oxidants, all good for heart and general health. The idea that eggs increase cholesterol which can block your arteries is beginning to give way to the truth that heart disease is largely caused by inflammation in the arteries caused by large amounts of carbohydrates. In fact, Men’s Health website published this about eggs & cholesterol: “A study in the Journal of Nutrition found that eating eggs increases HDL cholesterol but not LDL cholesterol. So eggs actually help your arteries stay clear! In another study, overweight participants ate a 340-calorie breakfast of either two eggs or a single bagel 5 days a week for 8 weeks. Those who ate eggs (including the yolk) reported higher energy levels and lost 65 percent more weight—with no effect on their total cholesterol levels”.

When it comes to your eyes, egg yolk contains the anti-oxidants, lutein and zeaxanthin, which assists in the prevention of macular -degeneration, a leading cause of loss of vision.

Eggs are not expensive, but do make sure you buy free range.

So what can the disadvantages of eggs be?

Allergies & Bacterial contamination are the two main issues.

In an article  “Egg Allergy” from the Food Allergy Initiative, it’s suggested that this allergy is the second most common allergy in children, the first being to milk. The Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America say most children outgrow egg allergies by the age of 5 but it’s not impossible to be allergic to eggs for life. Not common, but possible.

According to www.incredibleegg.org, bacterial contamination is not common and the cooking process usually kills it.

So, go stock up!

Lazy EggsI have two every weekday morning & sometimes two on a Saturday as well! Again, make sure you buy free range.

That’s the end of the egg story! Now changing topics drastically!

I can’t end today’s blog without copying what I put on the Rise and Shine Facebook page this morning:

I, like you, have suffered pain in my life. This morning as I was driving to work, I thought about this day 6 years ago. It was the hardest day of my life. My brother, Arnold, died. It was not supposed to be this way. As I thought of the joy of today, of the Rise and Shine show that lies ahead and the pleasure I get out of being in the studio, I thought to myself how difficult it is to confront emotional pain. That even though 6 years have passed, it was not supposed to be this way. I wished it could have been different. On the night of his death, I was in church and the words that we sang that night, came to mind today, “His grace is enough.” God’s grace IS enough. And although I still mourn, I know that God is good and that this life is not all there is. If it was, it would be very pitiful indeed! No, I look to a better future. A day when there will no longer be any pain or suffering or death. That will truly be a great day. So no matter what you are dealing with today, remember God’s grace is enough. He has both you and your circumstances in view.

2 Corinthians 12:9 But He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”

God bless you!

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂
