A Night Drive

It’s the first time we have decided to drive home from Swellendam late at night, but it actually worked very well. Mike had slept in the afternoon so he was fresh. He’s a night owl so  generally wakes up after 9pm. The N2 was pretty quiet and there was no desire or need to stop for coffee in Caledon. We left Swellendam at 8-48pm and arrived home at 11-23pm – so a journey of 2 hours and 35 minutes and probably the quickest it’s ever been. We did take Baden Powell Drive which is not always recommended late at night but the only trouble we encountered along it were a couple of patches of quite thick sand.

#928 of my 1000 thanks is for a safe and uneventful trip home.

On our arrival, the welcoming party consisted of Truffles sitting outside the garage and very happy to see us. She was hungry and ate well. I unpacked and headed for bed, while Mike unwound with a bit of TV before coming upstairs to bed.

We slept in today and had a relaxing day. Croissants and coffee in bed with the newspaper. David visited for lunch. He has released a new video to his YouTube channel…

So talented. I’m his Mum and biggest fan so am expected to say that,  but there are also a steady stream of others from all over the world that seem to agree.  The Masters in Music is certainly proving that practice pays. He started uploading his music videos in earnest on 9th August 2018 and has done very well since then. I think he started with 4 people who had subscribed (I probably was one of those 4!) Now he is close to 400! I’m so grateful that both Stacey and David found their gifts early and are both using them everyday of their lives. If I had to give advice to parents, it would be to look for the gifting of their children – find their passion – what they are good at – what comes naturally – and let them pursue it. Engineering for Stace. Music for David.

This afternoon, I felt like a walk, so messaged Riana and we had tea and then headed to Noordhoek Common. It is beautiful there right now…

Meggy having a good roll in horse dung! Lovely!

There are a couple of little bridges over the ditches…

And a really pretty walk along the edge of the common where there is a river. It’s a wonderful playground for kids with a slide and a fort…

It was a lovely little outing.

The weekend is at an end. I have dozens of emails in my inbox, so I may venture into it and give myself a head start on tomorrow.

I end the weekend more at peace with my mouth and its needs. I think the thing that stunned me the most was the length of treatment – 22 to 26 months. Tomorrow I send the orthodontist the signed quote and will phone to see if I can set up the appointment for the braces. It’s time to get this show on the road!

Philippians 2:13

For God is working in you, giving you the desire and power to do what pleases Him.

If getting my mouth sorted pleases the Lord, I’m in!

These are the days.

Keep the smile going.

God bless you.

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂

Day 4 of rest! (Can’t count the stroll around the common)
