1st September – A Significant Day…

10-44am

It’s a bit of a misnomer to say that 1st September is the first day of spring in Cape Town. The spring equinox is only 22nd September (that’s when the  plane of the Earth’s equator passes the centre of the Sun). But traditionally, we love to believe that come the first day of September, spring has sprung. Somehow, August sounds like winter. September sounds like spring! Mike & I celebrated the day by an early morning walk on Fish Hoek Beach…

FH beach 1st September 2013It was great to see some sunshine, something that has been missing over Cape Town during the last week…

Morning sunshineWe walked down to the Silvermine River to see how full it was….it wasn’t hugely full, but was flowing steadily….

PanoramicThe 1st September is a significant day, especially today, 2013. Twenty years ago today at 6am, Radio Fish Hoek sprung into life and so the forerunner of Radio CCFm was born. God has been faithful!  Radio Fish Hoek was THE FIRST legitimate community radio station to broadcast  in South Africa.  The radio industry was so regulated at the time, that it was impossible to broadcast legally. God began A HUGE work in taking His Word to Cape Town and South Africa, when Christian radio stations were given permission to broadcast. In Cape Town, it was first Radio Fish Hoek (in September & December 1993 & Easter 1994), which then became Radio CCFm in 1995. Later today we look forward to gathering for a small celebration to acknowledge the day and some of the people involved at the beginning, including co-founders, John & Avril Thomas…

John and AvrilPsalm 89:1 I will sing of the LORD’s great love forever; with my mouth I will make your faithfulness known through all generations.

To God be the glory!!!!

We have a bumper start to the week. Tomorrow on Rise and Shine, I’m looking forward to having Hettie Britz, parenting expert in the studio from 7-8am, and Tuesday Professor Tim Noakes is back from 7-8am. SMS questions (tomorrow or Tuesday at 7am) to 0837889494.

God bless you loads today!

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂
